With the rise of Copilots, many organizations find themselves asking “is Copilot safe?” The answer lies in the data used for the Copilot.

For example, Crow Canyon’s NITRO Studio 3.2 offers an easy, straightforward way to build the Copilot you need to bring the benefits of AI to your organization. Using a targeted data set, NITRO Studio’s Copilot app provides a safe and secure way to run an AI tool that enhances productivity and eases the workload on staff.

The Copilot Safety Challenge

Most organizations have not enacted data governance at the level needed to prevent the exposure of confidential, sensitive, and possibly biassed data. Microsoft Copilots that use the MS Graph can surface any data that the users have access to. Often, outdated, incorrect, and inappropriate data is dredged up and used in the Copilot. However, with a targeted data set, as used by NITRO Copilot, this is not an issue.

Use a Targeted Data Set for a Safe Copilot

A targeted data set is a defined and carefully vetted set of data. This could be documents in a SharePoint Document Library or List, or in OneDrive folders. NITRO Copilot will only use the targeted data. The documents and data are controlled by the permissions of who can create, modify, or delete items. A Document Management System (DMS) can be employed to make sure all documents in the dataset have gone through the proper revision and approval processes.

Furthermore, using NITRO Studio Workflows, conditions can be implemented to determine what subset of the targeted data goes into the Azure Search Index. Documents that are under revision or in draft mode can be excluded. If a document is added, revised, or deleted, the NITRO Workflows will update the Azure Search Index as per the rules configured in the workflow settings.

NITRO Studio’s Copilot app allows you to configure the user interface that interacts with the targeted data in the Search Index. With ability to add pre-prompts and to configure the “tone” of the Copilot interface, the users have an easy to use and effective tool to get more done with less effort. You can give them the power of AI without worry about exposure to inappropriate, or just plain wrong, information.
