Outlook Help Desk 3.0 Standard

Upgrading to Outlook Help Desk 3.1 - Compatible with Outlook 2007!

Outlook Help Desk 3.1 is a minor upgrade to version 3.0. Microsoft modified the Outlook programming model in 2007, and these changes made it necessary to revise Outlook HelpDesk slightly to be compatible with Outlook 2007.

Do I need to upgrade to 3.1?

Yes, if you are on version 3.0 and running Outlook 2007 (or planning to shortly). Version 3.0 does not run reliably on Outlook 2007. If you need to upgrade, you can access the 3.1/Outlook 2007 Compatibility Release here. Please also review the questions below.

No, if you plan on staying on Outlook 2003 or earlier. There is no need to upgrade until you go to Outlook 2007. The 3.1 release does not change or enhance any of the functionality in version 3.0, except to make it compatible with Outlook 2007.

QUESTIONS:

What is the cost?

This Compatibility Release is available at no charge to customers who are on one of our Support Contracts. Those without a support contract can purchase one at our Support Contracts page.

What effort is involved in the upgrade?

The custom Help Desk forms will need to replaced. Also, a new DLL will need to be added to those using Outlook client to interact with the Help Desk. For details, see Update Manual for 3.1.

Will I lose any data?

No. The forms will change, but the underlying data is not modified.

What if I have customizations to my current release?

Some customers have custom versions of Outlook Help Desk 3.0. These customers will need to contact us to make arrangements for upgrading to version 3.1. Some customizations will need to be re-implemented, and there may be a cost involved.

Will Outlook HelpDesk 3.1 run on previous versions of Outlook?

We realize that you may run a mixed environment during your migration to 2007.  Therefore we designed Outlook HelpDesk 3.1 to be backward compatible with Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003.

Will future releases of Outlook HelpDesk take advantage of new functionality in Outlook 2007?

As you read this, we are in the development cycle for Outlook HelpDesk 4.0. This is a major release which will add many new functions and leverage new capabilities of Outlook 2007. More details of this release will be available in the next few months.
